Evolution in action

I'm so excited, and I just can't contain my excitement! (Surely, 'and I just can't hide it'. -Ed.). There has been a major leap forward in the project of ball production. I may have hinted at this previously but I feel a big enough step has been made that it's time for an update.

Following the pop-up stall in Old Street it occurred to me that the packaging was wrong. The pots are pretty and I was happy with them but I found out there are a number of issues; the most significant being that they took up a lot of unnecessary space and were awkward to package and transport. New packaging was needed.

This coincided with another change, the shape. In brief, producing spheres was insanely time consuming. The idea was to create a small box like a pizza box and to complement the new packaging instead of spheres, the shape would be hemispherical. The would look super spiffy and also speed up production.

Having simultaneously researched the process of outsourcing production, I discovered that hemispheres came with their own issues. Those of cost and minimum order size; The cost was going to be astronomic and I'd end up with a shed full of little boxes. Then a brainwave was had. Change the shape completely to make production easier and cheaper while still keeping the sense of spiffiness.
Like this, but spiffier.
What you see above is a very rough mock up of the new direction. Instead of producing the pieces individually, a bar can be made and cut. You still get the nice box with individual 'bites' and production is easier, both while I'm doing it by hand and when it gets outsourced. I have access to the metal workshop to make the moulds tomorrow so this is all moving forward very quickly. Expect lots of updates.

Kirk very excited.
