Back on it

Now I've returned home the dietary restrictions are back in place. As well as indulging myself to excess over the weekend for the joyful sake of it, I also wanted to eat as unhealthily as I could allow myself in the hope of triggering as much of a response from my gut as I could and seeing what effect, if any, my clean diet has.

As the Banting diet I've been playing with has many similarities with a candida diet, I wanted to see the effects of my eating on my gut health. The easy to spot symptoms that accompany the suspected imbalance in my gut are a discolouration of my nose and occasional dry skin and spots. This is something called rosacea. For the record, I utterly fucking hate it and feel really self-conscious about it. It's a major motivation for me to see if there's a link to the food I eat.

The symptoms first appeared about two years ago and that's when I really first discovered about the difference a healthy gut can make. The symptoms I first experienced have definitely improved with a change in diet but are still noticeable. I've only just discovered the much more restrictive Banting diet and that's why I'm interested to experiment with it. It seems to make a difference which is why I did a long weekend of excess to bring on the rosacea which will now be followed by a three week period of very clean eating.

What occurred to me is that I love food and eating, even though a lot of what I love isn't healthy. What might make this lifestyle bearable is knowing the occasional blowout is awaiting as a reward for my self control, and that when I do eat like a madman, I don't undo all the benefits that the Banting diet brings.

Stay tuned for updates cos I'll definitely keep you posted. I've already got my blowout weekend in my diary and a few ideas of what treats I'll be giving myself. It's gonna get ugly and I can't wait.
