Our little secret
The biggest little city you've never heard of is a short flight away in Spain and tucked away in plain view. If that sounds like a cliche, it's meant to but let's get past that and on with the story. You may have heard of Murcia, towards Spain’s south east but have you ever visited or even been tempted to?
I couldn’t answer yes to either of those questions until now and, as you can probably imagine, I’m happy to recommend the place. Probably the main reason is that the place is buzzing but remarkably free of tourists.
It’s something that struck me almost immediately and probably what gives the place so much charm. Can you imagine turning up to a friends house and finding it as they live in it rather than if they were expecting you? There’s a natural authenticity that’s so rare these days that it almost feels weird.
As an extra bonus, from what I’ve read, the place is some kind of spiritual home to tapas and is the place to go if you’re a serious fan. This was fantastic news but for one small snag; I didn’t find this out until after my visit. D’oh!
All is not lost however because there’s an easy solution and you probably know me well enough to have worked it out. Just in case you haven’t, a return visit is necessary. As an extra incentive Murcia is a short ride away from Cartagena race circuit which I’ve not been to yet so I’ll be killing two birds, which makes a lot of sense.
