Friends in high places

You may have seen in a recent post that I managed to finally cross a bit of a frivolous entry off my to do list. The particular task was to change the exhaust from one of my delightful motorbikes from silver to black. This involved a spray can of special paint that is designed for hot surfaces. 650 centigrade to be precise, which is way hotter than my pipe gets but it's best to be safe.

Special paint, it seems, needs special treatment and in this case that meant curing the paint by baking it at 160 centigrade for at least half an hour. That's not so hot, you might think, just stick it in your oven and scratch your nuts for a half an hour. Why is this even a story? Here's a picture clue...
One 24" race can with extra pepperoni coming up
Unfortunately my oven is a tiny bit small so I had to get creative and save my nut scratching for another day. It turns out I have some friends who have a top pizza emporium nearby and I went to ask them a favour.

Let me say at this point that ordinarily, for sorting me out like this, I'd be giving them a massive plug. This was on my mind before I'd left their establishment but so was the idea of possible repercussions. All precautions were taken to protect the exhaust from the oven and vice versa but you may not be too keen on the idea of eating a pizza from an oven that has been used to cook automotive parts. This was discussed with them and we decided to err on the side of caution.

As you have no doubt gathered, they did me a massive solid and the can is back on the bike and looking very spiffy indeed. I'll not know if the curing has worked unless the paint suddenly flakes off, which seems unlikely. I'm sure I'll find another occasion to plug their magnificent pizzas, watch this space.
