Getting a move on

This is going to be hammered out double quick cos it's been an action packed day but nothing compared to tomorrow. I'll get to tomorrow in a mo, but first the highlight of today. We went to visit some cousins of the management who have Iranian heritage. As a bonus, they cooked lunch.

As you know, I love being cooked for and if being cooked lunch wasn't enough of a treat, it was a superb and very authentic Iranian meal, which, if you're not familiar, means it contained a boat load of saffron. There is a rice dish where the rice is cooked with yoghurt and saffron then left to steam so long that the bottom burns in the heap of butter at the bottom of the pan. The trick is knowing when it has burnt enough and turning it out like a big cake with a delicious crust on the top. (Leave it too long and the crust is too bitter). Then the top is piled with tiny bitter berries that have been cooked in more butter and sugar. Delightful.
Cake, because I don't have a picture of anything else.
As I wanted to bring a little something, I brought the above cake. Nothing special but it traveled well, which was important as we arrived by motorbike (and assembled the cake upon arrival). Both cake and motorbikes allow me to segue nicely into tomorrow's shenanigans commencing with a start so early that the only reason there could be for dragging myself out of bed that early is motorbikes.

Tomorrow is the first time this year the whole of my little clan will gather. Needless to say, I'm so excited I may have trouble sleeping tonight but what will help is finishing this pronto and getting to bed. So without further ado, onto the cake part of the day. Tomorrow is the birthday of my twin nephews and there is a cake for them setting in my fridge.

Somehow, I have to get back from my early ride, make a ganache, then cool it enough to pour it over before cooling it some more and wondering over to find them and their mates so we can all sing and blow candles. No doubt you'll get highlights tomorrow, including a picture of... Hmmm, what will it be?
