Old mother Hubbard

Strangely there seems to be a trend brewing. Yet another determined soul has joined the ranks of those looking to change their eating habits. His main hurdle, it seems, is preparation so one of the things we'll spend a lot of time on is getting stocked.

The marvellous thing about this is it relates to everyone, not just those looking to change their diets. And this means you. It wasn't until I was much older that I started to appreciate my mum's talent for shopping. Not only did she know what was needed for the week ahead for a family of five, but she would write a list that was grouped in the order the items appeared in the supermarket.

All possible because of a well stocked fridge.
Knowing her way round the supermarket was a bit spooky but maybe she was just making it harder for my dad to not fuck things up as he trundled round the supermarket fending off the nags of his children, hell bent on sneaking everything they fancied in the trolley.

Anyway, planning ahead can mean that instead of having nothing to eat and grabbing the easiest, and often unhealthiest, option instead, there are always going to be things that will support you in your choices. This may sound like an obvious one but you'd be amazed how often it gets overlooked and probably the most important time is snacks.

It may be because you're in a hurry or just need a nibble but whatever the reason, especially if you find self control an issue, make sure that the snack food in your grasp isn't going to sabotage your good intentions. The easiest way to fall off the wagon is when you're away from home, so when you're shopping, do yourself a massive favour and fill your trolley with nibbles and goodies to take with you. Got it? Good!
