Winding down

The only reason you're here is that you want a run down on last night's soiree and why wouldn't you? After two days of cooking, something memorable had to have been created and there's a better than average chance that those present will have trouble forgetting their evening. In brief, it went very well.

But enough trumpet blowing and on to details. The hard part was the stop start aspect of big catering when the menu was Asian and included a stir fry. Wait! The menu! Just to fill you in, there was an autumn miso soup starter followed by four dishes that included Chinese leaves and beansprouts, stir fried vegetables with noodles, slow cooked chicken with peppers in a spicy broth and quick fried prawns with coriander, lemon and garlic all followed by pear, plum and almond sponge. This huge feast for thirteen is the reason it took me two very enjoyable days to prepare.

Just enough room to plate up the mains
...and the debris left in the wake.
Rounding things off.
Though everything was at full capacity, I was organised and didn't forget a thing. If this was my last ever catering gig, (highly unlikely, you'll probably agree) it certainly will be a reflection of everything I've managed to master over the years. The other part of this was that as well as catering the get together, I was also hosting the affair. Floating around, welcoming people, handing out refreshing glasses etc was a joy and added to the bliss of the task.

Of course, had this menu been for a smaller number it would have come out in a more sophisticated way but that didn't matter. Everyone was overjoyed to have delicious, home cooked food and felt really grateful that a total stranger had opened their home for them.

Most importantly, my new boss (though it feels strange to call him that), was really happy with how everything went. I'm still reeling from the idea that my life has turned this corner and at the same time it feels totally normal. Which brings me back to the title of today's post. After thinking long and hard about it, I'll be finishing the blog. This won't be the last post but it will be winding up soon. Hopefully you'll be around to enjoy the last few episodes and then, like Truman slipping through the facade, I'll disappear.
