Two deaths but success
The only reason I didn't mention this is because there have previously been a couple of false starts. No such thing today, all went to well executed plan, though I'll be honest and let you know that we seriously underestimated how much there was to do. Three thousand balls always sounded like a lot to produce and even though we started early, we only got half of them done.
This, as you've probably worked out, is the first major production run of the scrummy fruit and nut snack balls I've told you about on many occasions. There were three of us working flat out from nine this morning to gone five, (including a brief break for an efficiently rustled up scrambled eggs with sourdough toast and salad), and we only managed to fill almost a hundred and fifty tubs with eight balls each.
Actually, 'only' is probably a bit unfair. In the course of the day we had one of the three food processors die. And my poor overworked hand blender, after many years of fine service, also gave up the ghost. 'Only' is unfair because we had no idea of the task facing us. A lot of the time was spent working out to how to most effectively blend and mix all the ingredients because I've never mixed this quantity.
In fact, one of the hardest parts was rolling one of the stickiest substances know to man. But we managed. We will reconvene early next week to complete the task then they go out for sale and that's when the real excitement starts.
I will, of course, keep you posted but for now all I'm thinking of is putting my feet up and chilling out. It's been a long day and my good friend Mr Jim Beam wants a quick word. Oh, before I go, in case you fancy having a go at making some healthy snack balls yourself, I'll be sharing the recipes with you.
