Blah blah, food and motorbikes.

What an amazing weekend! Yesterday, my enthusiastic nephews got to wash and polish and generally get a feel for handling weapons. Today, glorious sunshine, the moto GP race from Holland and another excuse to get the bbq fired up. Actually, with weather like this I'd need an excuse to NOT fire up the bbq.

This was the view of my kitchen as I got prepped for a bit of grilling. Note the computer perched in view with coverage of the racing at Assen, and what a race it was! However, the real excitement was not on track but on the grill with a new discovery as I tried something a little different.
All my favourite things in one place. Heaven.
As you know, I'm a fan of broccoli stalks. I cut the florets off and save the stalk for all sorts of things later. While having a rummage in the fridge, I came across a stalk I was saving and thought I'd peel it, oil it up and chuck it on the bbq to see what would happen.

What happened was I discovered that grilled broccoli stalk is delicious. See if you can remember next time you're doing a bbq and you may find that the next time you cut the florets off, you end up saving them and using the stalk first. Wouldn't that be a turnaround?
So cheap you can brush your teeth with it.
Before I go, just a little heads up that Waitrose have a special offer on extra virgin olive oil, as you can see above. Take the opportunity to grab a few bottles for your store cupboard, especially if you get through half as much as I tend to since I've started the Banting routine.
