Keeping perspective
The madness has clearly set in but fortunately I was able to catch myself. Just as I sat down to eat my dinner this evening, which you can see below, I noticed myself fretting that I might not be eating healthily enough, getting enough greens, making sure I'm getting vitamins and minerals etc.
The realisation that there was no need to worry arrived before I had freaked out and I was able to chuckle at this before my heart rate rocketed and I started hyperventilating. Realistically, if my diet is cause for concern, then what chance does anyone else have? As amusing as this all is, it raised an interesting point which I would like to share with you.
Tonight's almost healthy dinner.
As hard as it is, a balance must be maintained between being so stressed and inclined towards self flagellation over ones dietary choices that you give yourself an aneurism on the one hand, versus being so lackadaisical that you end up eating yourself into an early grave.
There's very little chance that you are at either end of that scale, but what also needs to get factored in is how accurate your self perception is. Mine is clearly wonky if I doubt I'm eating healthily enough so what can one do? The most important thing is, don't panic) Captain Mainwaring!) Stressing about your diet is also unhealthy, so instead, just have a game plan.
As a general rule, aim make tonight's meal is at least as healthy, if not healthier than last night's. Or this week's meals at least as healthy as last week's. If you're able to manage this, even in a general way, you'll not only be doing yourself, and anyone you're cooking for, a massive favour, you're also learning a helpful habit. Having said that, I've got one more week of my low carb, high fat experiment so in ten days I'll be pulling the pin again on an unbridled lard-fest. Yipee!
